1998 Ford Expedition. Mach Radio Wiring Diagram

  • #1

I got my wife a 99 ford expedition with the mach system and only the front passenger speaker is working. The hu has been replaced by a pioneer deh-p3000ib(which has a terrible interface). I pulled the driver side door panel off and the head unit out. I used my multimeter and do not have any between the head unit connector and the door. I traced things down and under dash there is a box with 2 connectors going into it, the speaker wires run into the box. It says something on it about keyless, anti theft, it was hard to read. I think it may be an amplifier for the door speakers, any one know? I can't find a wiring diagram online or much info about it, any info would be much appreciated.

so you assume that a box that says "keyless, antitheft" is a amp.. interesting.. you can google ford mach stereo diagram and maby find a chart for it.. but the amp is in the rear.

and just so you no, putting after market cdplayer in there and getting it to work correctly is a nightmare on these sometimes.. you will have to run wires all the way to the back right corner of truck were the stock amp is.. its a mess.. have a local shop do it for you.. most likely someone stuck a radio in with a crappy pigtail and didnt do nothing right ...

It was in it when we bought it, they used a harness that adapts to the factory harness, like Receiver Wire Harness For select 1998-03 Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and Nissan vehicles at Crutchfield.com. The sub works great, just none of the door speakers(well except the passenger front). I have only messed with the driver side front, so it could actually have some bad speakers or other issues in the other doors. But I tried a different speaker in the driver side front door and it didn't work, so that is when I pulled out the multimeter and found out there is no continuity. The only reason I wondered about it being an amp is from google, I'm going to go and try and get the part # off it, but it is tucked up there pretty good. I have spent about 3 hrs on the internet trying to find info on the system to no avail. Maybe something simple I'm missing, usually I'm pretty good with searching.

I really need to get this figured out, I can hear my wife over the stereo. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

I have that, I need to figure out what the speaker wires do from hu to the speaker itself, I think they take the scenic route.

Have you checked for broken wires in the door boots? Pretty common on these.

I have continuity from the speaker connector to where the connector plugs into that module I was curious about, so the wires in the door boot are fine. That module doesn't seem to have anything to do with the stereo from what I can figure out, so I got to do some more testing to do tomorrow.

So if it has nothing to do with the module then why would the speaker wires run through it?

I have no idea, but it sure looks like they do.

Try switching the front speaker wires around at the radio and see if the sound switches sides.

Hooked the speaker output wires from the deck I know are working to the other speakers and still nothing. Hooked a good speaker up to the speaker leads in the door and still nothing.

Save a Headache, and future issues, and yank that FORD MACH system out and start from the beginning..Id start with the HU, and a decent 50-100 rms 4ch amp,get front speakers hooked up, then a pair/or single sub, then a set of rear speakers, and call it a day..Ive never had good luck with stock HU,or systems..even with using a great LOC in the process..Save so much time, and frustration with just yanking it all out(stock system) and start fresh to know where every wire is, and what it goes to, and get some decent sound going..you will be much happier..it all doesnt have to be brand new stuff..good used works just as well
